I asked staff in San Francsico, they answered "don't know".
If no wellsfargo bank in New York, I have to close account today. Is there any ATM? Please tell me ASAP if you know. Thank you.

Open a free checking account with Washington Mutual (WAMU). There are a lot of branches in CA and a lot of branches in NYC as well.

You did not mention if you are going to NYC for a trip, or if you are moving to NYC permanently. Since you "asked staff in SF", I must assume that you are presently in CA.

You can open a "free checking account" and maintain the account with WAMU for as little as $1.

I used to travel to NYC on business a lot. I would fund the account before I left for my trip, and would draw money using my ATM card while there.

If you are moving permanently, all you have to do is change your address when you find a place in NY.

Wells Fargo doesn't have any branches on the East Coast.

When you say New York, I'm guessing you mean the city, not upstate, but the banks with a lot of branches in the tri-state area would be Bank of America, Wachovia, Chase, and Citibank.

I am pretty sure that there are no Wells Fargo banks east of the Mississippi. In NYC I would suggest Commerce Bank because it is free checking, no charge to use ATM's and open 7 days a week.

I would go ahead and close the account, and go with a more known bank like Wachovia, Sun Trust, Bank of America, etc. This way you KNOW there will be branches of them there. I was in the same boat as you when I moved from Texas to Georgia a few years ago. I had to close my account with Wells Fargo because they didn't have them here in Atlanta.

Nope, there aren't any Wellsfaro banks in NY, maybe in upstate. You should transfer to an account like Chase, Citibank, WaMu, Wachovia or HSBC. There are a lot of these banks here in NY.

No, there are no Wells Fargos in New York. When I moved here I had to change bank accounts because I previously banked there.
